As many of you may have read that a British woman won her case in Strasbourg against British Airways to be able to wear a cross whilst carrying out her duties as a cabin crew member. Although at the same time 4 others lost their cases one case on grounds of health and safety.
I suppose it is about getting the balance right and applying some common sense in different situations. Working with my colleagues in my Local Authority, we were looking woman only swiming sessions. We had a whole debate with woman, especially those who would use the service due to faith reasons, around the fact that whilst it would be attempted to ensure that a woman only envirionmant will be created for these sessions, however if there was an emergency and there was a need for a male Member of staff to attend this would overide the normal agreement. So health and safety considerations can sometimes be pitted against customers needs.
